KAI CLARK

EPK

SHORT BIO

When you’re the son of the Byrds’ Gene Clark – a pivotal figure in the formation of three distinct sub-genres of rock music (folk/psychedelic/country) – there’s a certain expectation, spoken or unspoken, that you’ll pick up the guitar and join the family business.  From an early age Kai Clark felt the pressure of such unreasonable expectations, but has always followed his own path in life, not one that had been projected on to him by anyone else. If Kai were to ever become a musician, it would happen naturally, on his own terms. When the time was right.

THE KAI CLARK BAND

KAI CLARK is the son of the late Gene Clark, legendary singer-songwriter and founding member of the hit 1960’s rock group the Byrds.  Kai is now continuing the legacy of his father and is quickly gaining worldwide recognition as an artist in his own right.

Kai performed as the opening act for Grammy Award winning artists Jimmy Dale Gilmore and Dave Alvin at the 2018 City Folk Festival in Ottawa Canada.

In December of 2018, Kai was involved in several concerts paying tribute to his father. In Melbourne Australia, Kai was the headliner amongst some of Australia’s most notable musicians.  In San Francisco, he performed with Carla Olson of the Textones, and the Green Leaf Rustlers featuring Chris Robinson (formerly of the Black Crowes) at the annual “Here Tonight” Gene Clark Tribute Show.

Kai is currently in the studio working on a new album of songs his father wrote and performed. The album will feature some guest appearances by Carla Olson, John York (The Byrds), Byron Berline (Dillard and Clark), and many other surprise guests. A tour to support the new album is also being planned for 2019.

Supported by class-A musicians well-versed in Folk-Rock, Classic Rock, Alt-Country and everything in between, The Kai Clark Band delivers a show that's packed with high energy and a fresh sound.

DON IAN

Guitar

Don Ian has been a familiar face on stages and studios in Hollywood for the last 2 decades. He has toured extensively in the US and overseas with modern country acts from Nashville, Tennessee to Baghdad, Iraq. He has appeared films and on television for Disney, the CW and the WB, most recently in the final season of the hit CBS drama The Mentalist. Don's most recent band, King Mersey, is a high energy early rock revue of the Beatles' Cavern and Hamburg years featuring the hits of Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry as well as The Dave Clark 5 and The Yardbirds.

DON SEGIEN

Guitar, vocals, mandolin, pedal steel, dobro, banjo, and bass

Don started playing electric bass in the early seventies. His earliest musical influences include Buck Owens and Don Rich, the Louvin Brothers, and classic country music from the 50s and 60s. He spent much of the eighties playing jazz, soul, and R&B. Over the years, he learned to play other instruments including guitar, dobro, pedal steel, banjo, and mandolin. A versatile and natural musician, Don is as comfortable playing mandolin in a bluegrass band as he is playing guitar in a blues band or bass in a soul band. Having a deep connection to American roots music and a broad musical vocabulary, Don is able to add that "extra little something" to Kai’s music.
